Run for your life! 10k charity run and walk on beautiful Clare Island, Co Mayo. Entry fee €38 includes return ferry from Roonagh Pier to Clare Island, pre and post-race refreshments, water and race medal.. All proceeds from the event are going to Cancer Care West, the West of Ireland Cancer Charity.

Q What does the €38 entry fee include?
A Entry includes return ferry from Roonagh Pier, pre and post-race refreshments, water along the route and finishers race medal.
Travel/Ferry
Q How do I get to Clare Island?
A Clare Island ferries depart from Roonagh, which is outside Louisburgh. Directions to Roonagh – From Westport, take the coast road R335 to Louisburgh (21 kilometres), drive straight through Louisburgh and about a quarter of a mile after the village, take a right turn to Roonagh (signposted). It is a further 7 kilometres to the pier.
Q Are there buses from Westport to Roonagh?
A No, participants have to make their own way to Roonagh Pier.
Q Do I have to book a ferry sailing?
A No, passengers with Clare Island 10K tickets will be accommodated on the ferries on a first come first served basis.
Q Can I use my ferry ticket on Friday/Sunday Sailings?
A YES
Q How long does the crossing take?
A About 25 minutes
Q What times are the ferries on Saturday?
A The first ferry will leave Roonagh Pier at 10.30, and depending on demand, will operate approximately every 45 – 60 minutes thereafter. Ferries will return from Clare Island after the race, starting at about 4.00pm and will operate approximately every 60 minutes thereafter until everyone who wants to be back on the mainland is!

Q Can spectators/visitors come too?
A Yes. The charge for non-race participants is €18. This includes return ferry trip and pre and post-race refreshments.

Q What do I do when I get to the island?
A Walk to the Community Centre (500 metres), collect your race pack, have a cup of tea and enjoy the welcome and beautiful scenery!

Q Where is the race start and finish line?
A The race starts about 200 metres from the Community Centre and finishes outside the Community Centre.

Q How is the race timed?
A The race is hand timed
Q Are there prizes?
A Yes, there are prizes for first, second & third male and female, and first male and female over 40, 50 and 60.
Q What facilities are available?
A There are male and female toilets at the community centre and an open plan changing area. Male and female showers are available. There are also toilets along the route at 7K (in the church). There is a secure baggage area where you can leave your bag.
Q Are there water stations?
A Yes, there are two water stations along the 10K route
Q How do I get my race result?
A Race results will be available in the community centre after the race and will also be posted on www.cancercarewest.ie
Q What do I need to bring to the island?
A Warm clothes for the boat, a change of clothes for after the race. Refreshments (soup/sandwiches) will be provided after the race but if you want any other food please bring it with you.

Charity Sponsorship
Q Where do the funds raised from the Clare Island 10K go?
A All the proceeds of the Clare Island 10K go to Cancer Care West. Cancer Care West uses these funds to pay for the operating cost and development of our residential and cancer support services, which are offered at no cost to cancer patients and their families from all over the West of Ireland. Q How much of the entry fee goes to charity?
A The cost of the ferry, race medal and online entry processing fees are paid for from the entry fee. The charity endeavours to have all remaining costs paid for through sponsorship. The remaining entry fee – in the region of €24 – goes to Cancer Care West.
