SUMMARY:Clare Island Adventure Race
DESCRIPTION:  \nThe Clare Island Adventure Race 2016  is set to take place on Saturday\, 30th April \nThis event will appeal to both experienced and novice adventure racers. There are two options – for the experienced racer the full course will be the perfect warm-up race for a busy season ahead. With the climb of Knockmore\, this race is no picnic and will present a serious challenge even to seasoned adventurers. \nFor those who might not be back in shape after the winter – or for beginners – the Spirit Race omits the climb of Knockmore\, and has a shorter cycle\, making it very doable although still reasonably challenging. (It is also very affordable at just €45 for the full race and €35 for the shorter race.) \nBut on Clare Island\, we’re always looking for the craic as well. We promise you a fun day out\, no matter the weather or your race result. We’ll be hosting an after-race party in the Sailor’s Bar with live music and rocking banter. The bar also offers a really tasty menu with Mains ranging in price from €13 to €22. So\, we recommend you book yourself into the highly comfortable Go Explore Hostel and make a night of it! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTHE COURSE  (Start time: 1.00pm)\n\nBreakdown of Full Race distances: \n\nRun – 5 km\nCycle – 13.6 km\nRun / Climb – 5 km\nDash to finish – 0.5 km (incl. beach obstacle course)\nTotal – 24.10 km\n\nBreakdown of Spirit Race distances: \n\nRun – 5 km\nCycle – 9.5 km\nDash to finish – 0.5 km (incl. beach obstacle course)\nTotal – 15 km\n\nStage 1 – Capnagower / Fawnglass loop run (5 km)\nStart at Go Explore Hostel & run along tarmac road with a small piece of green road\, wet in areas\, and back to hostel. \nStage 2 – The Gravel Pit cycle (5.5 km)                                  \nStart at Go Explore Hostel & cycle along tarmac road to the gravel pit situated at the foot of Knockmore. \nStage 3 – The Knockmore Mountain climb (5 km)\nStart at Gravel Pit & run along green road for 1km before beginning the mountain climb from circa 100m to 460m and back down the same way to the Gravel Pit. \nStage 4 – The Church Gate cycle (8.1 km)              \nStart at Gravel Pit & cycle along tarmac roads through the Church Gate and along the westerly side of the island to complete the Clare Island circuit & back to the harbour. \nStage 5 – Walk the Plank / Beach Challenge / Dash to the Finish (0.5 km)   \nRun from the bike drop off to the old pier where you walk the plank off the pier into the water and swim / wade back to the beach (swim / wade less than 15m).
